Join us on December 5th for CAN I KICK IT?, an interactive experience that combines hip-hop with a martial arts movie - in this instance the cult classic, Berry Gordy’s THE LAST DRAGON - and will be scored live by Shaolin Jazz.
Taimak (star of THE LAST DRAGON) will also be in attendance for the post-film discussion (conducted by our very own Curtis Caesar John) and meet & greet.
There will also be live martial arts demonstrations by the Pantherz Demo Team and Cequence Henry aka Running Fist Ronin.
25% of all ticket sales go toward the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund
Directed by Michael Schultz (“Car Wash”) THE LAST DRAGON is a celebrated 1985 cult classic starring Taimak and Vanity. In this fantasty-action-comedy, a young Black martial artist’s search for enlightment brings him face to face with Harlem’s kung fu kingpin, Sho’nuff, immortalized on screen by the late Julius Carry.
3 Chambers is a festival showcasing hip-hop, martial arts, and anime culture through a variety of live music performances, immersive art, and innovative film experiences. The festival derives its name from the three levels of artistic expression (art, music, film) with Chambers referencing the stages of a monk's journey to becoming a kung fu master in the film The 36th Chamber of Shaolin. Additionally, the festival pays tribute to the iconic hip-hop group, Wu-Tang Clan and the martial arts movie classic The 36th Chamber of Shaolin.
The Luminal Theater is a producer of Can I Kick It? with event sponsorship funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
